Konten 1 : Video Pembelajaran "Easy English Everyday-Animals"

          Judul dari konten atau video ini adalah “Easy English Everyday" yang membahas khusus tentang Animals atau hewan.  Video ini dipublikasikan oleh Pusat Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi Kementerian pendidikan dan kebudayaan Republik Indonesia di rumahbelajar.id pada tanggal 16 Mei 2019 Pukul 09.21 p.m. WIB atau kurang lebih 4 bulan yang lalu . Konten atau video ini membahas tentang bahasa Inggris dari nama hewan-hewan yang ada di sekitar kita.

Video ini dibuat khusus untuk tujuan pembelajaran, sehingga materinya sangat ringan dan mudah untuk dipahami oleh pelajar bahasa Inggris pemula sekalipun. Video ini sangat menarik karena dalam pembahasannya tidak hanya menampilkan nama hewan-hewan yang ada di dalamnya tetapi juga menampilkan gambar dari setiap hewan yang disebutkan dan tentu saja mengucapkan nama hewan-hewan tersebut. Yang tidak kalah menarik adalah orang yang mengucapkan nama  hewan-hewan dimaksud adalah penutur asli  sehingga sangat membantu kita untuk bisa belajar mengucapkan nama hewan-hewan tersebut secara benar. Pada  bagian akhir dari video ini  juga dijelaskan ciri-ciri  dari hewan-hewan dimaksud disertai gambar dan terjemahan dalam bahasa Indonesia.

Menurut pandangan saya  konten yang berupa video ini sangat menarik dan sangat cocok untuk dijadikan penunjang pembelajaran bahasa Inggris baik itu di kelas maupun kepada anak-anak di rumah. Tampilan yang menarik disertai konten yang sederhana  dan mudah dipahami tentunya akan menarik perhatian setiap orang terutama anak-anak untuk menonton dan mempelajarinya dengan baik. Saya meyakini bahwa tidak akan sulit bagi siapapun untuk memahami materi yang disajikan dalam video ini.

Secara keseluruhan video ini sudah sangat bagus  namun mungkin sedikit kekurangannya adalah materinya yang kurang luas. Maksudnya video ini hanya memuat  beberapa nama hewan saja. Jika lebih banyak lagi hewan yang ditampilkan dan dibahas  dalam video tersebut, maka tentu saja akan lebih menambah pengetahuan kita mengenai nama hewan lainnya dalam bahasa Inggris.

Konten 2: Buku berjudul “Language Teaching Tecniques: Good Practices from Indonesia, Second Edition"

Sesuai dengan judulnya, buku ini berisi teknik-teknik pembelajaran bahasa yang ditulis oleh guru-guru bahasa di Indonesia. Adapun teknik pembelajaran bahasa yang disajikan terdiri dari Bahasa Arab, Bahasa Inggris Bahasa Perancis, Bahasa Jerman, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Indonesia untuk pelajar asing, Bahasa Jepang, dan bahasa Mandarin. Buku ini ditulis oleh Rahmat, S.Pd, dkk. Tepatnya ada 60 orang guru bahasa yang berkontribusi sebagai penulis dalam buku ini. Kemudian diedit oleh Dewaki Kramadibrata,dkk, dan didesain oleh  Nanda Pramuchita, serta diterbitkan oleh SEAMEO Qitep  in Language Tahun 2017 dan dipublikasikan di rumahbelajar.id pada 30 April 2019.

 Keunggulan dari buku ini adalah tampilannya sangat menarik yaitu pada covernya colorful dan terdapat gambar kebudayaan dari berbagai provinsi di Indonesia yang tentunya akan menarik perhatian dari guru-guru di Indonesia maupun Negara Asean lainnya untuk membacanya. Selain itu isinya juga sangat bermanfaat bagi guru bahasa, baik guru Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Inggris maupun guru Bahasa Asing lainnya karena menampilkan teknik  pembelajaran bahasa yang sangat menarik dan mudah diterapkan. 

Karena saya adalah guru bahasa Inggris maka Saya ingin membahas sedikit tentang  teknik-teknik pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang tersaji di dalam buku ini. Menurut saya materi yang disajikan sangat sistematis dan mudah dipahami dimulai dari judul kegiatan, tujuan pembelajaran, unsur kebahasaan, metode pembelajaran, level, durasi waktu, persiapan, beserta langkah-langkah kegiatan semuanya tertera dengan jelas.

Untuk bagian Bahasa Indonesia dan Bahasa Indonesia untuk Pelajar Asing, saya melihatnya secara sepintas dan sedikit memahami bahwa teknik-teknik pembelajaran yang disajikan juga sangat menarik dengan mekanisme yang jelas dan tentunya mudah dipahami selayaknya yang ada pada bagian Bahasa Inggris.

Sementara itu, untuk bagian Bahasa Asing lainnya yaitu Bahasa Arab, Bahasa Prancis, Bahasa Jerman,  Bahasa Jepang, dan Bahasa Mandarin, saya tidak bisa berkomentar karena teknik pembelajaran dalam Bahasa- bahasa tersebut ditulis dalam target  language bahasa masing-masing, sehingga sulit bagi saya untuk memahami isinya. 

 Menurut pandangan saya pribadi, penggunaan target language memang sangat bagus untuk guru bahasa yang bersangkutan, tetapi alangkah lebih baiknya disediakan terjemahannya, misalkan dalam Bahasa Indonesia atau Bahasa Inggris. Hal ini bermanfaat bagi guru bahasa lain untuk bisa mengadopsi teknik pembelajaran dari bahasa yang satu untuk diterapkan pada bahasa yang lain yang diajarkannya. Karena tidak ada terjemahannya maka tentu saja guru yang ingin mengadopsi teknik-teknik dimaksud akan kesulitan karena tidak memahami apa yang tertulis dalam teknik pembelajaran tersebut.

STUDY BASED ON INTEREST

Have you ever watched ‘3 Idiots’? Do you remember Farhan? ‘3 Idiots’ is a film from bollywood which told about Three Indian students who study in Imperial College of Engineering (ICE). They are Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) and Ranchhoddas "Rancho" Shamaldas Chhanchad (Aamir Khan). Farhan is studying engineering to pursue his father's wishes over his own wish — to become a wildlife photographer. Raju is studying to get his family out of poverty. On the other hand, Rancho studies for his simple passion in machines. Rancho believes that one should follow excellence, not success, as success will take care of itself if excellence is followed. During their studying, Rancho always gets good scores because he interested in machine very much, so he dedicates his life for everything related to machine. On the other hand Farhan and Raju are the always in the bottom of the score list because Farhan learns something that actually he doesn’t like because his soul is actually in photographer, not machine, and Raju is someone who full of hesitancy. Actually this only a film in which maybe many people don’t believe in the whole action done by the actors. But if people pay attention to this film carefully, there is much knowledge and experience can be taken. In this article, I want to discuss about the knowledge I get from this film the is about the choice of field to study in which anybody needs to choose field of study based on their interesting, not because of their parents’ wishes as done by Farhan in that film.

Taking a field of study based on interesting is very important for students to master the subject easily. It is because they will dedicate their whole life to what they learn so they will try to find the solution for all problems they found in the process of their studying without any compulsion from anybody else. They will aware by themselves to do their responsibility as students because they feel that their subject is their life. They will not satisfy if cannot solve the problem completely. This condition can be seen in the personality of Rancho in the film above. It is not hard for him to every problem related to machine because it is his soul. He can finish the remote controlled helicopter designed by Joy Lobo his senior easily because he likes machine very much so it is an interesting thing for him even though for other people it is a very hard job.

On the other hand, for those who take a field for studying not because they interested in that field, will be difficult for them to solve the problems they found. It is because they study in that field but their soul is not there. Their souls are the place where they interested in. this condition can be seen in the personality of Farhan which is told in the film above. Farhan takes engineering as his field of study not because of his wishes, but because of his father’s wishes him to be an engineer. It caused him not focus in his studying because his soul is not in machine. He mostly does anything related to the photography of wildlife because he wishes to be a photographer of wildlife. Besides failed in machine, he also almost lost his interested thing. Fortunately he met Rancho who guide him back to his willingness and help him to explain to his father about his willingness.

After watching this film, I guess that many failures faced the students in their studying is not absolutely because of their laziness or folly, but it mostly because of the wrong field of study they choose. Many parents are very clever in looking at the opportunity for getting job, so they ask their children to take the field of study based the most needed without thinking about the ability and the willingness of their children. Taking a field of study based on the opportunity in the field is not wrong, but the ability and the wishes of someone must be given the most priority. Mistaken in choosing field of study have bad impacts for the students in develop their knowledge. Moreover many of them cannot continue their studying because they don’t like what they learn. What they learn is different from what in their heart. It will make them not enjoy with the lessons they learn and they decided to stop.

I think it is very important for parents to pay attention to their children development, in which looking carefully about what their children interested in mostly so they don’t make mistakes in choosing field of study for them. It is better if the children are given opportunity to decide their own field of study and the parents just support them. About their job in the next, I think if they master their field very well as a result of their desire to that field, it is not hard for them to find any job. Moreover they can create jobs related to their ability in their field not only for themselves, but also for the other people have related field of study.

I think let the children to make their own choice in take their field of study based on what they interested in will give them more feeling to responsible about the field the choose in which they have no reason to blame other people such as parents and so on if they find problems in their studying because it is their own choice. It will make them try more to find the solution of that problem. Automatically they don’t abandon to solve it because it is their willingness. It is something that will give them feeling of satisfying if they can find the problem. Also they will face the problem happily because they enjoy with it.

At the end of this article, I would like to invite all of us, whether the parents, children as students, and the other people who involve in education to take appropriate field of study. What I mean here is the field of study chosen needs to something that the students interested in because it will help them to develop well in their studying. Lets learn more from the personality of Rancho which is told in the 3 idiots film.
