In this globalization era, technology has been a primer needed of
human being. Almost all human activities which need human capability have been
changed by the development of technology. Previous jobs that require physical ability now can be
replaced by automated devices (Kelen, 2011). One simple example is in
communication aspect. Several years ago people mostly used letter to send
messages or to give information to the other people, but because of the development
of technology, nowadays letter is rarely used by them. They have changed it by
using the new one which called Short Message Service (SMS), Blackberry (BB),
email, and so on by using Hand phone, Computer, and the other related
communication tools.
The
development of technology walks together with the controversial ideas about the
impact of technology toward humans’ life. The positive and negative impact of
using technology almost cannot be separated one to another. They always walk
together like the two sides of a coin which cannot be separated. For example, in
one side internet helps human beings to access information from any source
easily. People need not to waste much time to go to library, bookstore and so
on to find any information they need, they just work with the internet and they
can find the information they need. On the other side, internet also affects
human beings to access something like porn websites and so on which against the
of some countries, including Indonesia our beloved country as a country which
give high recommended to the respectfulness of urbane.
Even
though there are many controversial ideas about the existence of technology, in
this article I just want to focus on the important of technology toward humans’
life. In other words, this article just focuses on the positive impacts of
technology for human beings. There are some benefits of technology to humans’
life, such as in aspects of education, social, health, transportation, and many
other aspects that influence humans’ life.
In
education aspect, technology play a part in helping the students and teachers,
also the other people who are included in education aspect to get information
easily. Any difficult knowledge can be solved easily because of the using of
technology. At the last, teachers taught manually by using
blackboard/whiteboard and board marker which take much their energy. But
nowadays board and board marker step by step start to be changed by laptop and
LCD. The using of book and pen by the students in doing their assignment also
in process to be changed by computer works. The using of computer/laptop and LCD is more
effective because it can be used multiple times, and also if there is some mistakes;
it can be edited easily without start again from the beginning. Not only
computer, the existence of internet also helps the teachers and the students to
find out the knowledge easily. The difficult to find books and any printed
media has been solved by the existence of internet. Besides that, there are
still many other benefits of technology to the development of education.
The
development of technology is also very important in social aspect. Nowadays, it
feels like there is no long distance communication because the existence of
phone/hand phone and the other social networking programs, such as messenger,
yahoo mail, friendster, facebook, skype, and so on. People can make relation
with people far away that they never met before by using the kinds of
technology stated above. Facebook can help people to find their old friends
with whom they lost communication for long time. The communication with family
and relatives who live in a place far away also become easier because of
technology of communication. The relation between the governments of different
countries also becomes easier because of technology. For example in
international meeting, the using of automatic translator can help the members
of each country to understand the ideas or comments given by those from other
countries. Many other functions of technology in social aspect have not been
said in this article.
In health
aspect, the using of technology can help the doctors and nurses to solve the
health problem found. They use technology makes the doctors easier in
diagnosing the disease of the patients. For example: the using of X-ray in
diagnosing the inner organs, such as bone, lungs, hearth, and the others. Technology
also is used to find out new findings related to health aspect through research
and identification. New diseases, new medicines, new techniques to heal the
patient and the like can be found by using needed technology. For example, in
the process of operation of serious injury technology is needed very much,
whether the media, tools and the material used during the operation. Lamp is
needed for the lightness; anaesthetic is needed to blot out the feeling of
sickness, special knifes are needed to cut the unneeded organs, and the other
medic technologies which needed based on its own function.
In
transportation aspect, the important of technology can be seen and felt clearly
by everyone. People needn’t to go on foot from one place to another which takes
long time because of the existence of motorcycle, car, train, and the other
land transportation. People need not to swim from one island to the other islands
because of the existence of sea transportations, such as boat, speed boat,
ship, and so on. People also can reach places which located far away as fast as
possible because the existence of air transportations. Moreover people can
reach the other planets, the moon, and so on by using outer space
transportation, such as Apollo, rocket, and the like.
Actually
there are still many other benefits of technology in humans’ life, not only in
those four aspects stated above, but also the whole aspects of humans’ life.
The four aspects above are only the example which represented the other aspect
about how important technology is for humans’ life. There is not enough time
and space for anybody to talk about the important of technology for humans’
life completely. So even though the existence of technology sometimes has bad
impacts, but I believe that the benefits of using technology are far more than
the risk.
